2018 ISA World Congress let the planning begin!

Planning for the 2018 International Sociological Association World Congress to be held in Toronto, Ontario is off to a good start.   Hosted by the Canadian Sociological Association with support from the Metro Toronto Convention Centre and Tourism Toronto, the Congress will welcome approximately 6,500 delegates from around the world over 7days in mid July.

As the Chair of the CSA-SCS planning committee, Patrizia Albanese introduced Toronto and our association to over 2000 delegates during the opening ceremonies of the 2014 World ISA Congress in Yokohama, Japan.

Patrizia also managed the CSA-SCS/ISA 2018 Information Booth along with a representative from Tourism Toronto and members of the CSA-SCS who generously donated their time to meet and greet those interested in learning more about Canada and our association.   Many thanks to our volunteers at the booth: Andrea Doucet, Melanie Heath, Mustafa Koc, Les Laczko, Guida Man, Ray Murphy, Nicole Neverson, Marilyn Porter, Jill Smith, Mark Stoddart, and Lori Wilkinson.

Next Steps:

  • The association will be reviewing the ISA contract and budget in advance of engaging a Professional Conference Organizer
  • The association will need a Local Organizing Committee with regional representation along with other diversity. Those interested in being a part of the LOC can contact Patrizia through the CSA-SCS at office@csa-scs.ca (subject line ISA 2018 LOC)
  • Sponsorships to help offset the expenses associated with hosting the Congress will need to be secured
