The Canadian Sociological Association is pleased to be hosting the ISA World Congress of Sociology in July. The International Sociological Association (ISA) is an umbrella organization made up of 56 research committees (RC), 3 working groups (WG), 4 thematic groups (TG), 62 national associations, 6 regional associations, and a wide range of institutes and departments. The ISA World Congress is typically held every four years, in difference cities and countries around the world.   We are excited to have been selected to host it in Canada this year. To make it a great success, we need your help!

 

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS

We are seeking volunteers to welcome and provide assistance to approximately 6000 delegates. Be a part of our team by volunteering in the largest gathering of sociologists, activists, and practitioners in Canada in over a decade!

Duties will include assistance with the following:

  • Registration desk
  • Delegate bag distribution
  • Delegate badge checks
  • Information booth
  • Media Room
  • Support with attendees and presenters in session rooms
  • Wayfinding and safety

 

Volunteer benefits include:

  • An official Congress 2018 t-shirt to wear while you volunteer
  • Ability to attend Congress sessions as an observer while not on duty
    • Not applicable to those required to be registered Congress delegates (e.g. presenters, panelists, chairs or discussants)
    • Valid only on the day(s) you are scheduled to volunteer and for sessions open to all Congress delegates from July 16 – 21
  • Volunteer break room with light refreshments
  • Networking opportunities with sociology students, scholars, and practitioners from over 50 countries
  • An official letter acknowledging your participation as a volunteer
  • Training and volunteer Handbook to help you find everything you need to know in one easy guide

 

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Minimum contribution of eight volunteer service hours (each shift is 4.25 hours)
  • Official event T-shirt and volunteer badge must be worn at all times while in service
  • Completion of the Volunteer Registration online form
  • Attend a training session on Sunday, July 15 from 3:00pm – 4:30pm
    • Those working at the Registration Desk will be required to attend a training session on Saturday, July 14 from 1:30pm – 3:30pm
