Information for Students
for Students
Global climate change, the depletion of fisheries worldwide, deforestation, biodiversity loss, urban environmental quality, and suburban sprawl are among the key environmental issues facing Canadian society in the 21st century. These and other environmental issues are not external to society, but are intimately bound up with our social values and behaviours, as well as our social, economic, and political structures. For this reason, sociology has an important role in understanding the causes of environmental issues, as well as helping us transition towards ecological and social sustainability.
This website provides resources and links for undergraduate and graduate students interested in developing a better understanding environment-society relationships and connecting to the network of environmental sociologists in Canada. Visit the events listing to attend and present at environmental sociology-related conferences and gatherings.
