The 47th Annual CSA Conference is being held as part of the Canadian Federation of the Humanities and Social Sciences Congress. The Congress theme for 2012 is “CROSSROADS: SCHOLARSHIP FOR AN UNCERTAIN WORLD.”

The CSA is inviting potential Session Organizers to submit session proposals. We are again suggesting several topic areas into which we will try to slot most sessions.  You may suggest a new topic area or select ‘Other’ to allow for sessions not fitting into any pre-defined topic areas.  Interdisciplinary sessions and those with a focus on the Congress theme would also be of interest.

There will be multiple sessions under each topic area, and they can either be sub-titled (e.g., Communities: Studies on Internet Communities”) or numbered (e.g., Race and Ethnicity I; Race and Ethnicity II).

Roundtable Sessions

The conference also has a longstanding category for “roundtable sessions”, defined as follows: “Roundtable sessions are one-and-a-half hours in duration and have several purposes:

(1) to showcase work that is at an early stage of conceptualization

(2) to present research proposals

(3) to present papers that cannot be placed in regular sessions

(4) to present papers that arrive after the deadline.

A roundtable involves an organizer and a chair who may also be the organizer, providing he or she does not present at the roundtable.  Roundtable sessions include up to ten papers or informal presentations including the organizer’s.

It will often be reasonable to decide whether a group of papers constitutes a regular session or a roundtable after abstracts have been received. You can propose a session now, and re-define it to roundtable later.
