Social Science Post-Doctoral Fellow
University of Saskatchewan, Social Sciences Research Laboratories
Overview: The University of Saskatchewan is seeking a Post-Doctoral Fellow to work within its Social Sciences Research Laboratories (SSRL) on a one-year project. Under the direction of the Scientific Director of the Spatial Analysis Lab and the Principal Investigator of the Survey Lab, the Post-Doctoral Fellow will lead original research on public and stakeholder attitudes regarding Saskatchewan’s nuclear sector, including its medical, energy and research applications. As a province with a rich history of contributing to nuclear innovation, this project will enhance the continued excellence in this increasingly important field.
Duties: Utilizing some or all of the SSRL’s telephone survey, web survey, spatial mapping, and experimental decision-making capacities, the Post-Doctoral Fellow will design and implement research to gauge opinions, attitudes, and knowledge of the nuclear sector in Saskatchewan. The Post-Doctoral Fellow will author and coauthor research reports on behalf of the SSRL and will be strongly encouraged to use the data in his/her own research publications.
Qualifications: Candidates must possess a completed PhD in a social science discipline (geography, political science, economics, psychology, sociology) and must have strong quantitative analysis skills and an interest in studying public policy attitudes. A background in research methodologies would be a strong asset. While experience, knowledge, and training related to nuclear medicine, energy, and its impact on society are valuable, this expertise is not assumed and the successful Post-Doctoral Fellow will receive assistance and training in this area.
Application: The application process is open; submissions will be reviewed as received, with all applications received by Friday, February 15, 2013 to be considered. All applicants are asked to submit a letter of introduction outlining their research, public policy and methodological background and interests, a CV, and the names and contact information of three references. The position will begin in or after March 2012 (starting date to be negotiated with the successful candidate) and will run for one year. The Post-Doctoral Fellow will receive a salary of $45,000 and some assistance with moving expenses.
