Graduate Research Workshop on Migration and Settlement

CERIS invites you to an interactive workshop showcasing research findings on migration and settlement by emerging scholars in Ontario. In this all-day event, recent and prospective PhDs will present on three major themes including New Forms of Precariousness; Migrant Health and Wellbeing; and Citizenship, Multiculturalism, and Identity. Following the presentations, the audience will have an opportunity to receive hands-on training on how to write research summaries and mobilize research to the general public.

Session One: New Forms of Precariousness (9:00 am – 10:10 am)
This session explores the policy and experiences that affect migrant workers and international students at a global and local level. Topics include temporary work, live-in caregivers, access to education and student mobility.

Session Two: Migrant Health and Wellbeing (10:20 am – 11:30 am)
This session focuses on the physical and mental health of immigrants and refugees, especially women. Topics include utilization of and access to health services, memory and trauma, employment and its effects on health.

Session Three: Citizenship, Multiculturalism, and Identity (11:40 am – 12:50 pm)
This session looks at the factors that shape migrants’ identity formation and expression. Topics include immigrant diversity, dimensions of citizenship, identity re-negotiation, and belonging.
