It is with sadness that we acknowledge the sudden and unexpected death of Dr. Slobodan Drakulic. His death is a loss to the academy and a blow to the Canadian Sociological Association where Dr. Drakulic was an important member of a network of Canadian Political Sociologists. As a Sociologist, Dr. Drakulic was a strong supporter of the Association, regularly organized sessions at the Congress and was a creative voice for the discipline.
Dr. Drakulic received his undergraduate and Masters degrees from the University of Zagreb. He then went on to the University of Toronto to complete his PhD. Dr. Drakulic taught at Rijeka, Zagreb and the University of Toronto before becoming a full time faculty member at Ryerson University as a professor of Sociology. The focus of his scholarly work was in the areas of nationalism, war and peace, the history of ideas and social movements. Over the years, he contributed to the scholarly discourse on topics and issues important to both the academy and politics.
