CSA-SCS Event: Let’s Talk Systemic Racism

August 17 @ 3:00 pm

The CSA SCS is hosting an open discussion on systemic racism and the barriers faced by racialized students in academia, entitled Let’s Talk Systemic Racism, on Monday, August 17th, at 3 p.m. (EDT). This event will be open to racialized students only.

Karine Coen-Sanchez, a PhD student in Sociology at the University of Ottawa, has been working with the Student Concerns Subcommittee to convene a panel of students who will share their experiences and facilitate a larger discussion on systemic racism and white supremacy in sociology departments and in academia more broadly.

Following the panelists, participants will have an opportunity to share their own experiences, ask questions, and offer comments and suggestions.

Panelists and participants are welcome to contribute to the discussion in English or French.

It is our hope that this conversation will be the first of many, and that it will help to identify tangible steps we can take to cultivate anti-racism as a core tenet within the CSA and within our respective sociology departments.

Register to participate here.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at students@csa-scs.ca.

 Thank you,
