2014 Essay Contest Rules

Are you a critical policy thinker?  Are you doing, or have you done. research on public policy, pertinent to Atlantic Canada, with a view to promoting progressive politics in the region?  Do you want your work read by policy experts, enthusiasts, academics & activists? If so, the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives- Nova Scotia (CCPA-NS) invites YOU to enter its 2014 Essay Writing Contest!

PRIZES:  $150  for best graduate essay;  $150  for best undergraduate essay.   Winners will be announced at the 2014 CCPA-NS  Fundraising Dinner.   Winning essays will be posted on the CCPA-NS website & publicized through the CCPA-NS list serve

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all students (Canadian or international; full or part-time) enrolled, between September 2013 & April 2014, at a post-secondary institution in Atlantic Canada. There are two levels of competition: one for graduate student papers & another for undergraduates.  Only one entry per person, please.

ESSAY CONTENT:Any subject matter related to public policy in Atlantic Canada –local, provincial, regional or national, specific cases or comparative work– that takes a critical approach & considers progressive policy alternatives, in any discipline, or in multi-disciplinary studies.

ESSAY DETAILS:   Papers can be written in English or French; 20-30 typed & double-spaced pages; 12-point font.

DEADLINE:30 April 2014

ADJUDICATION:3 person panel of judges comprised of members of the CCPS-NS Executive &/or the CCPA-NS Research Advisory Committee.
