Dalhousie University: Jean-Sébastien Guy Memorial Lecture in Social Theory

Dear colleagues,

Dr. Jean-Sébastien Guy, our friend, co-worker, and Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology & Social Anthropology (SOSA) at Dalhousie University, passed away in November 2022 after a long illness. Jean-Se is greatly missed in SOSA. His deep devotion to his family, his good-natured and thoughtful interaction with students and colleagues, his infectious laugh, his wide-ranging intellectual curiosity, and his passion for social theory are remembered very fondly.

To honour his contributions to the intellectual community of social theory scholars, and his dedication to making theory engaging and accessible to SOSA’s students and faculty, SOSA would like to host a lecture series in Dr. Guy’s name. The Jean-Sébastien Guy Memorial Lecture in Social Theory will be given annually in the SOSA department by an invited speaker. Our goal is to raise the necessary funds to support the series, with the inaugural lecture slated for Fall 2023. If you would like to help make the Jean-Sébastien Guy Memorial Lecture Series a reality, please see the attached flyer or visit http://giving.dal.ca/guylecture. (For more information about how to donate, please contact Jennifer Pierce, Associate Development Officer, at jennifer.pierce@dal.ca.) Please feel free to share this with anyone whom you think may be interested in contributing.

Thank you very much for your support of this initiative. For more information about Jean-Se and his work, or to leave a message of condolence for his family and friends, please visit https://tinyurl.com/jsguy.
