Queen’s University: Tenure Track Position in Cultural Communications

The Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures (LLCU) at Queen’s University invites applications for a Tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor with specialization in Cultural Communications, with a preferred starting date of July 1, 2022.

Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent degree in critical communication studies, cultural/linguistic anthropology, sociology of communication/language, or related field completed at the start date of the appointment. The main criteria for selection are academic and teaching excellence. The successful candidate will be required to provide evidence of high quality scholarly output that demonstrates potential for independent research leading to peer assessed publications and the securing of external research funding, as well as strong potential for outstanding teaching contributions at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and an ongoing commitment to academic and pedagogical excellence in support of the department’s programs. Candidates are required to provide evidence of an ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary and student-centred environment. The successful candidate will also be expected to make contributions through service to the department, the Faculty, the University, and/or the broader community. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a scholarly interest, expertise and a publication record in the area of Cultural Communication specializing in critical understandings of diversity and variation in cultures, language, and communication. The area of specialization may include a variety of topics under this umbrella, including cultural diversity and integration, multiculturalism/multilingualism, migration and diaspora, international/intercultural media, race/ethnicity and culture, and related themes. Preference will be given to candidates who work within languages that are taught in LLCU.

  • a current Curriculum Vitae (including a list of publications);
  • a statement of research interests;
  • a statement of teaching interests and experience (including teaching outlines and evaluations if available); and,
  • three letters of reference to be sent directly to Dr. Donato Santeramo, Professor and Head.

The deadline for applications is December 3, 2021. OR Applications received after the deadline will be reviewed only if the position remains unfilled OR Applications will continue to be reviewed until the position has been filled.
