The Department of Sociology at the University of Saskatchewan invites applications for a twelve-month term position for the period beginning July 1, 2014. Appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor.

The position requires a person with specialization in the area of research methods, with emphasis on advanced quantitative methods and statistics. Preference will be given to candidates with additional expertise in qualitative methods or social theory; capacity to complement teaching in substantive areas of department specialization including Globalization and Development, Law, Crime and Justice, Race and Ethnic Relations, and Indigenous Issues, is an asset.

Requirements for the position include: a completed doctoral degree in Sociology (or closely related field appropriate to the area of specialization), a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching, and a demonstrable potential to develop a record of research. The successful candidate will be expected to play a central role in teaching advanced research methods and related courses in our undergraduate and graduate program.

The Department of Sociology is a vibrant academic department committed to excellence in teaching and research. It offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate (B.A.) and graduate (M.A. and Ph.D.) degree programs, including dual degree programs offered in conjunction with Xi’an Jiaotong University in China. The Department houses the Social Research Unit and department members also work closely with the Social Sciences Research Laboratories. Department members are engaged with several specialized and interdisciplinary research endeavours.

The College of Arts & Science offers a dynamic combination of programs in the humanities and fine arts, the social sciences and the sciences. There are over 8,000 undergraduate and graduate students in the College and 325 faculty, including 12 Canada Research Chairs. The College emphasizes student and faculty research, interdisciplinary programs, community outreach and international opportunities.
