Janice Newson is Professor Emerita and Senior Scholar at York University. She has been a vocal critic of the corporatization of the university and its effects on the public serving mission of universities. Her scholarly publications include journal articles, commentaries, conference presentations, invited lectures, and four co-authored/co-edited books, most recently, with Claire Polster. A Penny for Your Thoughts: How Corporatization Devalues Research, Teaching, and Public Service in Canada’s Universities. Ottawa: The Centre for Policy Alternatives, 2015. Since the early 1980s, she has an activist in mobilizing campaigns against corporatization across Canada and elsewhere.
