A Penny for Your Thoughts: How Corporatization Devalues Research, Teaching, and Public Service in Canada's Universities

by Claire Polster (Author); Janice A. Newson (Author)

This book is a real-time tour of how universities in Canada have been transformed from public-serving institutions into knowledge businesses through corporatization. In 17 chapters, Newson and Polster explore how this transformation has been accomplished, and how corporatized higher education is losing its connection to the public good. However, they argue, corporatization is an ongoing process rather than a completed project, and is thus open to intervention and disruption. They provide numerous proposals for how students, faculty members, and citizens can intervene to disrupt and reverse the transformation that has taken place and they call on them to do so.
