You’ve written the paper. Now comes the existential question: Where does this even go? Who is your audience for this paper? This interactive workshop is designed for undergraduate and graduate sociology students navigating the complexities of interdisciplinary publishing. We will unpack how to identify the right journal, assess fit beyond surface-level keywords, translate your work across subfields, and strategically position interdisciplinary research for impact. We will also discuss common pitfalls, reviewer expectations, and how to publish work that challenges disciplinary boundaries.
Guest Speaker:
Dr. Alan Martino (he/him) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Community Health Sciences at the University of Calgary. His main research interests focus on disability, gender and sexualities, particularly through qualitative and community-based approaches. His work has been published in multiple journals, including, for example, Disability Studies Quarterly, Sexuality and Disability, Qualitative Research, and Sexualities. He has guest-edited three special issues. In recognition of his research contributions, he was awarded the 2024 Early Investigator Award by the Canadian Sociological Association and the 2024 Early Career Award by the Sociology of Sexualities Section of the American Sociological Association.
