About Us

The Association was first established in 1965 as the Canadian Sociology and Anthropology Association (CSAA) / Société canadienne de sociologie et anthropologie (SCSA) and registered as a federal not-for-profit corporation in 1972. The CSAA/SCSA was re-structured as the Canadian Sociological Association (CSA) / Société canadienne de sociologie (SCS) in 2007. The CSA is a member of the Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences as well as the International Sociological Association.

The objective of the CSA is to facilitate and promote the advancement of the discipline of sociology in Canada and abroad and to expand the opportunities for sociological research, teaching, and learning in compliance with the highest ethical and academic standards. Members benefit from a complimentary subscription to the journal, Canadian Review of Sociology, as well as being eligible for; participation in the annual Conference, award nominations, funding programs, governance roles, and voting in the Annual General Meeting.

The CSA membership includes academics as well as community engaged researchers and practitioners. Anyone with an interest in the discipline of Sociology is welcome to join.
