Congress and the CSA are offering student members (Undergraduate, MA, or PhD students) identifying as Black or Indigenous, complimentary Congress delegate registration to attend our Conference. Membership in the CSA is required. Contact us to learn more.

Childcare Policy and Funding Program
The CSA strives to support member participation in the annual Conference by recognizing the financial and logistical challenges experienced by members requiring childcare. Planning strategies have been implemented to provide convenience and flexibility for event participants.
The CSA Conference will schedule the majority of sessions at 9:00am, 11:00am, 1:30pm, and 3:30pm Eastern Time (ET). Some sessions and Research Cluster meetings may need be scheduled at 5:30pm ET due to the number of sessions in the program. The Women’s Caucus meeting will be scheduled in the 1:30pm ET time-slot. Provisions have been made to accommodate remote presentations.

The CSA has set aside funds to offset the cost of childcare for members participating in the CSA Conference as a presenter, panelist, chair, or discussant. Funds are limited and are therefore allocated based on applications received and criteria determined by the Executive Committee.
Eligibility Criteria and Terms:
- Membership in the Canadian Sociological Association (must be active at the time of application and through June 21, 2024)
- Participation in the 2024 Canadian Sociological Association Conference as a presenter, panelist, chair, or discussant
- Professional status in one of the following categories. It is assumed that these positions are least likely to qualify for institutional support and/or the financial stability to manage childcare expenses.
- Student
- Postdoctoral Fellow
- Limited-term Contract Faculty
- Sessional Instructor
- NPO / Community Organization Employee (non-academic)
- Unemployed / independent scholar
- Care required for child(ren) under 12 years-of-age (applicant must be responsible for the care of all children included on the application)
Adjudication
The application form will be open from January 31 through April 16, 2024.
The adjudication committee will include representative(s) from the Canadian Sociological Association Executive Committee and the Feminist Sociology Research Cluster. Funding levels will be finalized based on the number of children and sessions in which the applicant is participating.
Claiming Funds
Approved applicants will receive instructions and a claim form on or about May 15, 2024. The completed claim form with documentation (receipt of fees paid) must be submitted by June 30, 2024 to the CSA office and funding will be distributed following the Conference.

Conference Participation Subsidy
Deadline: March 18, 2024
The CSA has set aside funds generated from the ‘Full-time Academic - Sponsor’ membership registration category to subsidize the cost of Congress delegate registration fees for eligible members in precariously employed positions participating as a presenter, panelist, chair, or discussant.
Eligibility Criteria:

Membership in the Canadian Sociological Association (must be active at the time of application and through June 21, 2024)

Participation in the 2024 Canadian Sociological Association Conference as a presenter, panelist, chair, or discussant (in-person participation from June 17 - 21, 2024)

Professional status in one of the following categories;
- Postdoctoral Fellow
- Limited-term Contract Faculty
- Sessional Instructor
- NPO / Community Organization Employee (non-academic)
- Unemployed / independent scholar
Student participants may apply for the Student Travel Grant Program and those identifying as Black or Indigenous may be eligible for complimentary Congress delegate registration.
Application and Claim Process

Applicants must complete the online form by March 18, 2024

Application approval notices will be sent by email on or about March 25, 2024

Funding levels will be determined by the number of eligible applications received and available budget. Therefore, the funding provided for approved applicants may not cover the full cost of Congress delegate registration fee
- Successful applicants should register as a Congress delegate with the Canadian Sociological Association Conference Fee included before March 31, 2024 to benefit from reduced rates (the final date to register as a delegate is April 15, 2024)
- A copy of the delegate registration receipt must be saved in order to claim the approved funding

Successful applicants will be sent instructions to claim their funding with a request for a copy of the Congress delegate registration receipt (with Canadian Sociological Association Conference fee included) in late May.

Student Travel Grant Program
Deadline: March 18, 2024
In order to support student participation in the Canadian Sociological Association Annual Conference, the CSA Executive provides financial assistance for travel expenses. Funds are limited and are therefore allocated based on applicant eligibility and criteria determined by the CSA Student Concerns Subcommittee.
The CSA is committed to the values and principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization. We recognize that we owe the richness and vibrancy of our Association to the diversity of our membership and encourage applications from historically marginalized groups, including Indigenous peoples, racialized persons, persons with disabilities, persons who identify as women, and/or LGBTQIA2S+ communities.
Eligibility Criteria

A member of the Canadian Sociological Association in good standing
- Register for membership before submitting your application
- Current memberships must be valid through June 21, 2024 -
Registered in an undergraduate, MA, Professional degree, or PhD program at a Canadian University

Recently graduated (after January 1, 2024) PhD students from a Canadian University without a postdoc

Participating in the 2024 Canadian Sociological Association Conference as a presenter, panellist, chair, discussant, or organizer (in-person participation from June 17 - 21, 2024)

Reside or departing (which-ever is closer) from a location more than 200 km from the Conference location in Montreal, Quebec

Application Review Process

The number of approved applications and grant amounts can vary year by year depending on the Travel Grant Program budget and the location of the Conference.

Applications for the Travel Grant will open online beginning January 31, 2024. Applications will be accepted until March 18, 2024 and notification of approval or denial will be sent by email no later than March 25, 2024.

Approved applicants must submit a claim form after June 21, 2024 in order to receive funding.
