Sent on behalf of Jada Watson, Shana MacDonald, and Brianna I. Wiens:

We are recruiting members of academia or university settings to complete an online survey for a study entitled “Personal Experiences of Online Misogyny and Gender-based Violence in Academia and University Settings” (version française). This study aims to explore the experiences of individuals working in these settings who encounter technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV). Our goal is to identify the modalities of TFGBV to address this form of violence and create resources to support the community. This is a project funded by SSHRC Partnership Development Grant supporting research of the Digital Feminist Network, co-directed by Shana MacDonald and Brianna I. Wiens from the University of Waterloo.

We are looking to recruit current researchers, professors, librarians and archivists, and administrative personnel who have experienced or witnessed TFGBV. We are particularly interested in those who recognize themselves as feminist. To participate, you must identify as a member of the Canadian academic or postsecondary education community.

Should you have colleagues at your institution that fit this description, feel free to forward this message to them. This would be a great asset to our recruitment process.

If you are eligible to participate and interested in participating, you would be asked to complete an online survey containing both demographic questions and questions related to your social media use, experience with TFGBV and its impact on your mental health and wellbeing. All survey data will be recorded anonymously and reported in aggregate form. Your participation should take approximately 30 to 45 minutes. The researchers have received ethics approval by the University of Ottawa’s Research Ethics Board.

The survey will remain open until 15 September 2025, and can be accessed via this link : https://www.surveymonkey.ca/r/WJNS2HW

If you have any additional questions about this project, feel free to email me at DigFemUO@uOttawa.ca.

Thank you for considering this invitation.
