Meet the Author - At the Limits of Care: Gendered Work and Stories that Matter

“Blending brutally honest memoir with penetrating sociological analysis, Klostermann brilliantly exposes the profound ambivalences of care when care workers are not cared for themselves. Moving, funny, and provocative, At the Limits of Care makes an important contribution to this increasingly necessary field of study.” - Jamie Hakim, co-author of The Care Manifesto: The Politics of Interdependence.
Dr. Janna Klostermann will discuss her newest publication, At the Limits of Care: Gendered Work and Stories that Matter. (University of Toronto Press, 2025) with a slate of distinguished panelists.
Asking, "What are the limits to women’s care? What happens when they reach their limits?" Klostermann interrogates women’s counter-stories of reaching their limits, crossing ethical lines, and stepping back from paid or unpaid care work roles. She uncovers gendered power dynamics, questions dominant tropes, and opens possibilities for more equitable futures.
