Race and Ethnicity

The Race and Ethnicity Research Cluster of the Canadian Sociological Association brings together sociologists and interdisciplinary scholars from across Canada and beyond to connect, exchange ideas, share research, and strengthen scholarship on race and ethnicity.

The cluster creates a national space for dialogue on race, ethnicity, racialization, and racism in Canada, while connecting Canadian scholarship to broader international perspectives. Our members examine how race and ethnicity intersect with class, gender, sexuality, religion, immigration status, and other dimensions of social life, and how these intersections shape institutions, inequalities, identities, and social change.

We are a collaborative and growing community that supports research exchange, conference programming, networking, and opportunities for members to contribute to the direction of the cluster.

Call for Papers

We invite submissions for a forthcoming special issue of FIAR: Forum for Inter-American Research entitled: From Margin to Center: Black Canadian Hemispheric Perspectives

 
In the current climate of polarizing politics—marked by global conflict, resurgent nationalism, xenophobia, and backlash against racial and gender justice—this special issue seeks to center often-underrepresented Black Canadian experiences within broader hemispheric and diasporic conversations.  Submissions may focus specifically on the Canadian context or adopt a comparative hemispheric approach, provided they critically reflect on what Black Canadian perspectives contribute to broader understandings of Black diasporic life, thought, and struggle in the Americas.
