Race and Ethnicity

Welcome to the Race and Ethnicity Research Cluster for CSA. This research cluster aims to connect, network and promote dialogue, ideas, research, and action among professional and public sociologists in the field. It provides an opportunity to emphasize all aspects of race, ethnicity, ethno-racialization, and racisms in a Canadian context compared to broader international contextual experiences. While exploring the intersectional attributes of race and ethnicity, including class, gender, sexualities, religion, and immigration status, members of the cluster will consider the social outcomes of racist ideologies and structures.

If you are interested in being involved, don't hesitate to get in touch with the cluster chairs;

Jamilah Dei-Sharpe, Concordia University

Secil Ertorer, University of Niagara Falls Canada

Call for Papers

We invite submissions for a forthcoming special issue of FIAR: Forum for Inter-American Research entitled: From Margin to Center: Black Canadian Hemispheric Perspectives

In the current climate of polarizing politics—marked by global conflict, resurgent nationalism, xenophobia, and backlash against racial and gender justice—this special issue seeks to center often-underrepresented Black Canadian experiences within broader hemispheric and diasporic conversations.  Submissions may focus specifically on the Canadian context or adopt a comparative hemispheric approach, provided they critically reflect on what Black Canadian perspectives contribute to broader understandings of Black diasporic life, thought, and struggle in the Americas.

Deadline for full articles: August 1st, 2026. See attachment for further submission details.

Editors: Dr. Jamilah Dei-Sharpe,  Dr. Afua Cooper, Dr. Wilfred Raussert
